John Donne once wrote, “No man is an island.” The same could be said for a community like Jones County. Our continuing success as a great place to live and work depends on partners, both in and out of the county, who share our vision and work alongside us to fulfill it.
Our partners, of course, include all levels of government, both those jurisdictions within Jones County, the State of Mississippi and the U.S. Federal Government. They also come from education: Jones County Junior College, of course, but also the various state universities, especially the University of Southern Mississippi in nearby Hattiesburg. And, we depend on many private businesses, agencies and institutions to help make Jones County a better place to live.
We’re involved with some partners in a close, even day-to-day relationship. Here’s a few that provide invaluable service to the Jones County region.
Mississippi Development Authority
The MDA is the lead state agency for economic development in Mississippi. They are especially helpful to local governments and private industry for the tax credit and incentive programs they manage – these programs ease the cost burden on new or relocating businesses during their first years of operation in Mississippi. They also provide assistance and expertise in site selection and other issues that affect economic development.
Mississippi Technology Alliance
MTA is a non-profit organization dedicated to advancing the cause of innovation and technology-based economic development within Mississippi. They provide business development and marketing services for a wide range of high technology entities, including entrepreneurs, manufacturers and investors.
Mississippi Power
One of the principal electric power providers in the state, Mississippi Power also works closely with local communities and industry to facilitate utility economic development by enhancing utility power services. Recently, they were instrumental in the planning and implementation of power service to the new Howard Technology Park, ensuring that the park’s power needs were well met for several years to come.
Entex – CenterPoint Energy
Not only is Entex the natural gas provider for businesses and residences in Jones County, they are active participants in our community. Besides assisting in business and economic development issues, you’ll also find Entex involved as volunteers and sponsors in various community organizations and events in Jones County.
