Should you happen to fly into Hattiesburg-Laurel Regional Airport with the advantage of a window seat, one of the things you’ll surely notice on approach is how green everything is in Jones County.
That’s because for all our economic and population growth, trees still outnumber businesses and people in Jones County. And, that’s a great thing – throw in our mild climate, and you and your family have a lot of reasons to enjoy Jones County’s great outdoors. Those of us who already live here take every opportunity to do so.
Of course, one person’s idea of fun may differ from another. No problem – the choices in Jones County are vast. Perhaps your idea of a good time is picnicking near a playground for the kids: Jones County has quite a few civic and recreational parks. How about sports? The Jones County Sportsplex and similar complexes support a variety of youth and amateur sports, including soccer, baseball, softball and tennis – and we have plenty of golf courses for those of you who like to hit the links. Perhaps you’re into hunting, fishing or camping: Lake Bogue Homa and Big Creek are just a couple of sites in the Jones County region to satisfy your inner sportsman, hiker or camper.
Of course, not everything entertaining is necessarily outdoors or in wooded areas. We have community theaters, an esteemed museum of art and quite a few festivals and special events scattered throughout the year.
It all comes down to this: Jones County offers you plenty of opportunities to play – and in places that are truly beautiful.
