A healthy mix of committed educators, citizens and students has made education a top priority in Jones County. We believe lifelong learning is critical to our long-term success in all areas of community life.
The Association for Excellence in Education (AEE) plays a fundamental role in the success of the public school system in Laurel. Involved business leaders and organizations participate in the Adopt-a-School program each year. This program provides more than the typical list of needed supplies. The business community has exceeded the call of duty by providing the latest technologies to public schools, such as an interactive white board called Smartboard – an impressive addition to any school system.
In addition, the AEE trains business leaders to present the Mississippi Scholars curriculum each year to junior high and high school students. They encourage students to make smart choices in high school that will better prepare them for life after graduation. Mississippi Scholar presenters illustrate that education pays: “The more you learn...the more you earn.”
Community Outreach exists in higher learning as well. The Workforce Development Team at Jones County Junior College is committed to providing top-notch training for a skilled workforce. The Advanced Technology Center and its staff serve as a regional leader in workforce training and development. Through industry partnerships and a commitment to excellence, the outreach efforts of JCJC are beneficial to the community.
