In 1968, Laurel native Billy Howard returned home from military service and began a company that built electrical transformers. Today, Howard Industries is the largest transformer manufacturer in the world.

Now, in less than five years of production, they have carved a comfortable niche in a much larger market – the $150 billion-dollar world of microcomputers. Utilizing their current 40,000- square foot facility, Howard Computers has developed highly successful lines including servers, desktops and rugged laptops well suited for construction and other heavy industry.

With strong product lines and a solid parent company behind them, Howard Computers is on track for even greater growth in the next ten years. In the spring of 2007, Howard Computers will bring the Howard Technology Park to life as they boot up their new 150,000-square foot office and manufacturing facility located in the heart of the park.

With the resources of the Advanced Technology Center - which is already open - close at hand, company executives expect to employ over 5,000 people in the next decade. The “spin-off” effect to the region is expected to be considerable with the growth of goods and services companies (in and out of the park), as well as new housing developments in the area.
