SouthGroup Insurance Services Continues Strategic Growth

LAUREL, MS – SouthGroup Insurance Services has announced that two of Jones County’s oldest and most successful property & casualty insurance agencies, Reeder, Street & Thames and Terry Insurance Agency, have reached an agreement to join SouthGroup of Laurel effective July 1, 2012.  The move will expand SouthGroup’s business footprint and add vast insurance and risk management experience to what is already one of Mississippi’s largest independent insurance agencies.

“We are very excited for two highly respected businesses to become part of our agency that have been stalwarts of the Jones County business community for generations,” stated Charlie Kent, CIC, President of SouthGroup of Laurel. “All of our agency principals have been both personal friends and friendly competitors for a long time.  There’s great strength in numbers when we can claim over 200 years combined experience among our three agencies,” continued Kent.

Both Terry Insurance Agency and Reeder, Street & Thames are multi-generational, Trusted Choice © agencies with deep ties to both the Jones County business community and the Independent Insurance Agents of Mississippi (IIAM).  Terry Insurance Agency was founded in 1932 and is led by Billy Taylor, CIC, CPCU, an insurance veteran with over 37 years experience and a past president of the IIAM.  Reeder, Street & Thames was founded in 1954 with Tommy Thames and Neill Thames serving as current agency principals. Similar to Mr. Taylor, Tommy and Neill Thames each also bring over 32 years insurance experience to SouthGroup. Combining this rich heritage and profound experience with SouthGroup’s extensive business portfolio will be a tremendous asset for the clients of all three agencies.

Commencing Monday July 2nd all three agencies will have consolidated operations in SouthGroup of Laurel’s current location at 409 Central Avenue in downtown Laurel.
